Forsyth Park Fountain is Back: What It Means for Your Portrait Session in Savannah

Savannah Wedding Venues

It’s official — Savannah’s most photographed landmark is home again.

After about six months away, the Forsyth Park fountain returned to full operation in December 2025, complete with a city celebration to mark the moment. If you’ve ever pictured your portraits framed by that gleaming white cast iron, the most iconic backdrop in the city is available once more.

What actually happened

The fountain has anchored Forsyth Park since 1858, but it hadn’t seen a major restoration since 1988. So in June 2025, the City carefully removed it and shipped it roughly 300 miles to a specialty iron foundry in Alabama, where it was dismantled and restored piece by piece in a project budgeted up to $650,000. Crews reinstalled it that fall, finished the surrounding basin, plumbing, and lighting work, and turned the water back on in December.

The result is the same beloved landmark Savannah has always known — just structurally sound and freshly restored for the next generation of photos.

What this means for your session

In plain terms: the backdrop everyone wanted is back. Engagements, weddings, maternity, family, and graduation sessions can once again feature the fountain in all its restored glory.

If you booked a Forsyth Park session during the restoration window, or you’re planning one now, you can do it with full confidence. And if the fountain isn’t even the part you care about most — Forsyth’s oak-lined walkways, open lawns, and gardens are as stunning as ever.

For the practical side of planning — the best time of day to shoot here, where to park, what to wear, and the park’s other top photo spots — I put all of that in my Forsyth Park Portrait Session Guide. Start there and we’ll build your session around it.

One quick tip

The fountain’s return means renewed crowds, especially on weekends. An early-morning session still gives you the best light and the most space to work with — fountain included.
