The number one question I get before a family session is “what should we wear?” — and it’s a good question, because outfits make a bigger difference than people expect. Here’s the simple framework I give every family.
Matching outfits — everyone in white shirts and khakis — looks dated and a little stiff. Coordinating looks intentional and modern.
Pick a palette of two or three colors that work together, then let each person pull from it in their own way. One person in a soft blue, another in cream, another in a muted tan: same family, same feel, no costume energy.
Big patterns and bold logos compete with your faces and date the photo. Solid colors with a little texture — a knit, a linen, some soft layers — add depth without distraction. If someone wants a pattern, let it be one person, kept subtle, and build the others’ solids around it.
Our backdrops are green and gray and golden — moss, oaks, old brick, soft light. Earthy and muted tones sit beautifully against that: creams, sage, dusty blue, warm neutrals, soft rust. Bright neon and stark all-black tend to fight the setting.
Savannah gives you very different settings, and your outfits should match:
The best family photos happen when everyone feels like themselves. If a child hates stiff collars or tight shoes, that discomfort will show up on their face. Let kids be comfortable enough to actually be kids. Bring layers in cooler months and breathable fabrics in our warm, humid ones.
If you’re ready for family photos in Savannah, I’ll guide you through everything — outfits included — so the day feels easy.
